San Francisco Ferry Building Farmers Market:
Multiple Bike Thefts
My gray Marin Sausalito hybrid bike stolen from outside the Ferry Building in San Francisco on Saturday October 10 between 1:30-2:00 pm during the farmers market. It was locked up with another bike to a railing at Gate B with a very thick cable lock.
We were on our way from the Mission to see the Blue Angels on the Marina green, and decided to stop briefly at the farmers market at the Ferry Building. We locked-up our bikes with a very thick cable. As we strolled through the market, someone cut the cable (must have used bolt cutters) and took off with my bike. They left my boyfriend's bike, which was probably worth more. He is 6' 4", so maybe the thief could not fit on the bike.
I reported the theft to security and to the police. It was very disheartening to hear from security that multiple bike thefts happen at every farmers market. Why aren't there signs warning people about this? It is obviously a big problem. I assumed the bikes would be safe because there were so many people including members of the coast guard walking around. Big mistake on my part.
